Autor: Alberto Ribeiro G. de Barros

Resumo:

The aim of this paper is to analyse James Harrington’s thought on the foundations of government in The Commonwealth of Oceana (1656), the best-known expression of his political theory. The main purpose is to discuss the change in the republican conception of government with the introduction of elements apparently unfamiliar to classical republicanism.
